The Creation vs Evolution argument
Creationists and Evolutionists have been going on about this for ages, but as far as I can see, neither has very convincing arguments. The biggest conviction that each side has, is that the other side is wrong, and they build their arguments by deriding their opponents.
What was there in the beginning?
On the one hand, the creationists argue that evolution does not broach the subject about how things started in the first place; about how things just appeared in “space”. On the other hand, the evolutionists argue that the Bible does not explain how God came to be. In my opinion, these two arguments are one and the same. This question will never be able to be answered.
Time
While the young earth creationist view, that the Earth and man were created in six days, leaves most of us doubting its validity, there is an old earth creationist view which holds that earth was created by God, but that the six days cannot be taken literally. This takes much of the steam out of the evolutionary argument.
Creationists, however, having purportedly conducted studies over 30 years and have noticed no significant changes in evolution in that time, reject the evolution theory. Evolutionists do not pretend that things happen overnight (in the grand scheme of things), and have stated that over thousands, and perhaps millions of years, little changes become big changes.
Monkeys
This is one of the creationists biggest arguments against evolution, and they have collected many points from believers who cannot accept that they evolved from monkeys. There is a degree of truth in that statement, but no-one is saying that humans evolved from monkeys. Human ancestors came from the homonids, as did the gorillas and chimpanzees, but that is where the comparison ends. Around 4 million years ago, gorillas and chimpanzees diverged from the hominids and evolved seperately from humans.
Science
Evolutionists put a lot of “faith” in science, declaring that what they are saying is the “truth” and is based on fact. In science, a “fact” is something that has been confirmed by various sources as true – based on the information available at the time. Truth in science is never final and can modified or discarded tomorrow.
The Bible
Creationists put all their “faith” in this book. In fact, different sects of the Christian and Catholic faith put their faith in different books, testaments and characters in the Bible. The book has been rewritten and interpreted and discarded. And yet, the Bible overrides anything else in the universe for believers.
Nothing either side says has been proven. Whether you believe in science or in religion is your choice. Just keep an open mind, because you never know …
