We are all in the grips of a reality freeze! What I mean is … we carry on carrying on, doing the same things every day, not really wanting that exactly, but not really trying to change it.
We maintain the status quo, really, adjusting the way we live and survive to fit our income (or our perception of our real income), and using the resources that we have. The problem is, we believe that those resources are always going to be there …. granny looking after the kids, the job is secure, the transport is reliable, our health won’t be affected, etcetera, etcetera.
We make plans based on those ‘reliable’ things.
And then life gives us a swift, sharp kick up the gluteus maximus. Depending on how we deal with that kick, we either stumble or fall … or take little notice. I suppose it depends on how significant that kick was, or how shitty our lives are at that moment, that we expect some more excrement to be passed our way at some stage.
Perhaps that’s the whole thing … instead of expecting our lives to get better, we expect shitty things to happen. I suppose that’s why undesirable things happen.
I know that, and you know that … well, maybe? I’ve read those magazines and books and listened to audio tapes about how to change my life, and they all have one thing in common. Change your attitude … change your life.
You cannot carry on doing the same things and expect a different result. Yes, its an old cliche, but it’s true. My resolution for Christmas, because New Year’s resolution are inevitably broken, is to change the way I do things. I want to try new things and try to live without grannies help. I want to start ignoring things that people tell me about their sorry lives, where they carry on doing the same things to get that same result. Because by doing that, they are causing me to have the same result.
